چکیده
Distributed Mission Training (DMT) is a concept composed of promising technologies that support training in a variety of domains such as defense and medicine. To develop and deploy such systems, it is important to account concurrently for hardware and software requirements, given high demands for network bandwidth, computing resources, and complexity of software applications. In this paper, we present the application of a distributed co-design methodology (Discrete Event System Specification/ Distributed Object Computing) as applied to the Mission Training and Rehearsal System (MTRS), a DMT system. For an example, we show that the developed simulation models allow prediction of the network capacity below which messages cannot be sent and therefore incorrect behavior results. The key issues presented are (1) characterization of the DMT style architectures in DEVS/DOC, (2) prediction of DMT-like basic scalability traits via simulation, and (3) discussion on some open problems underlying the applicability of distributed co-design for systems containing "off-the-shelf' components.

متن کاملScalability Considerations and Evaluation for Distributed Mission Training Systems
Distributed Mission Training is a promising technology in support of training in general and within DoD in particular. Architectural considerations (interplay of hardware and software) is instrumental given high demands for network bandwidth and computing resources in relation to proliferating software complexity. This paper proposes a co-design modeling and simulation methodology and environme...

In the state-of-the-art hardware/software (HW/SW) codesign of embedded systems, there lacks of sufficient support for architectural specifications across HW/SW boundaries. Such an architectural specification ought to capture both hardware and software components and their interactions, and facilitate effective design exploitation of HW/SW trade-offs and scalable HW/SW co-verification. In this p...

This paper proposes the Tissue methodology as a novel methodology for analysis, design and synthesis of networked embedded systems and subsequent development of distributed architectural frameworks. The proposed method aims at reducing the development time through the use of reconfigurable HW/SW components and the application of automatic code generation techniques. We devise the usefulness of ...
متن کاملSystematic Embedded Software Generation from SystemC
The embedded software design cost represents an important percentage of the embedded-system development costs [1]. This paper presents a method for systematic embedded software generation that reduces the software generation cost in a platform-based HW/SW codesign methodology for embedded systems based on SystemC. The goal is that the same SystemC code allows system-level specification and veri...
